Golf seems to be a hard sport. The basic idea or object of this game is to get your ball from the starting point or t to the green into the hole. The hole is marked by a flag. The idea is to get your ball into the hole in few shots possible. The hole does not mean only the physical hole but whole area from the starting point to the hole. Either the game is PGA or other we offer golf picks for all.

Equipment

The equipment required to play golf is golf balls, golf clubs, wooden t, gloves and a golf bag. There are different types of clubs available for different type of shot to make. One type of golf club is driver club. Driver club goal is to get the ball as far as possible towards the green. Hybrid club purpose is to get long range shots. 2 to 9 iron club ranges from 120 to 190 yards away from the green. It is chosen according to the range of the shots. Lower numbered irons are used for longer shots and higher numbered irons are used for shorter shots. Another type of club is wedges help with short but high shots. Putter helps to roll the ball into the hole after it is on the green or occasionally from just off the green.

Golf Rules

Now let us discuss about golf rules.

  • The balls must be hit from the standard clubs from the start of each hole to the green and ultimately into the hole which is marked by the flag. Players strike the ball in turn with the furthest away from the hole going first.
  • At the start of a new hole whoever took the least shots on the preceding hole shall go first. For penalty for lost ball is one stroke in this includes balls struck out of bounds or into water hazards. The player will have five minutes to search for the ball. Players can only use 14 clubs.
  • Players cannot seek advice other than their partner.
  • The ball should be played as it is found. Player cannot move, break, bend anything fixed or growing other than to assume your normal stance, your line of sight or your area of swing. On the putting green a player can mark, lift and clean his ball so long as it is replaced exactly where it was.
  • Players can repair ball marks or hole plugs but nor spike marks that are on the putting line. Golf has its own language. Here how golf scoring term is understood. Ace means hole in one. Par means the predetermined number of strokes. Birdie means one stroke under par on a hole. Boggy means one stroke over par on a hole. Double bogie means two strokes over par on a hole.
  • Eagle means two strokes under par on a hole. Double eagle means three strokes under par on a hole. Most pro events use the stroke play system. Events are held over 4 days.
  • Winner is the player who completes 72 holes for rounds of 18 in fewest number of shots. This was all about basics of golf as a sport.
